Literally in love with this backpack. I had my eye on it for awhile and it definitely lived up to the hype!

Love my new backpack! It was the perfect size for traveling to Italy, both as my personal item on plane and also for excursions. I LOVE the size and the way it opens wide for ease of searching for thing. Rainy day? No problem. Highly recommend!

Bag needs to have longer straps, more colors, that Velcro pocket put a zipper instead when you’re riding on quiet buses people get annoyed!, with the sound of strong Velcro, add larger phone size pockets inside

Only took off one star cause the water bottle holders on the side are a little difficult to use. Phenomenally designed backpack. Been using it since the day I got it.

Love this backpack! Love that it stands up/stays open, doesn't flop over when packing things in. Pockets for water bottle are wide enough and deep enough for my bottles. Lots of storage on outside, padded pocket for small laptop and will expand if necessary. A truly functional backpack!

Awesome bag that looks great, holds a LOT of stuff and laughs at moisture. I’m super happy with it and plan to take it everywhere for traveling, work, etc. I will even invest in the duffle bag. They are so well made and affordable

Great backpack for Private Investigator work. Holds files, laptop, iPad, power cords, pads of paper, recorders, lunch, water bottle, camera ... you name it! The interior walls could use a few more zippered pockets to hold pens, pencils, stickie notes, binder clips, highlighters and other mobile office items, but I right now I use traditional zippered pencil cases to make do. Thanks!

I love the big opening and it holds a lot. The laptop portion needs a longer Velcro strip. When I’m carrying my laptop it bouncing back and forth against my back. I use it solely for work and had to remove the chest strap as it was in my way, last but not least the straps are harder to get on easily without getting twisted.

Love it! The color is the best! Just look at this backpack... It is stunning. Zippered pockets are beautiful and the sizes are great, and all so very FUNCTIONAL! Two side pockets are roomy, so easy to stash my water bottle. The top opens up wide to load/unload and see inside. Easy to hang up anywhere! Really comfortable to wear.

Perfect pack for carry-on under seat air travel. Couldn’t believe what it holds and still compact. Looks good and well made.

I am returning to Paris for the first time in five years and looking forward to roaming its streets with my new lightweight backpack. Recent back muscle spasms left me wondering how I could manage a heavy shoulder bag full of “stuff” needed for a day of wandering the city but this backpack has solved my dilemma ! I can easily carry what I need with room to spare for things I find along the way. AND… it’s good looking as well!!

such a comfortable backpack... can be used for school, work, and anywhere for those rainy Portland days... very spacious. this is a GREAT purchase and is now my family's GO TO when we go anywhere by bike. (knobs on the bottom means you can set the bag down on the ground in wet weather without damaging anything inside. a must game for PNW). Great for picnics too since a blanket and bottles fit perfectly...

This backpack looks great!! Way more roomy than I expected. Love the wide mouth and that it stands up Only weird thing is the chest strap seems too high ‍♀️

I have been using my Portland Gear bag for a week, and it is wonderful. I am a nurse and use it primarily for work. There has been a lot of rain here recently, and all of my equipment remained dry inside thanks to the bag being waterproof. It is also a roomy bag to accommodate whatever I need to carry on any given day. Thank you!

This is the second backpack I've purchased of this design. The first one was a gift for my husband a year or two ago and this recent purchase was for our son. He's always admired his Dad's backpack and loves having his own now. He plans to use it for an upcoming trip as his only piece of luggage. We all appreciate the amazing design and the many wonderful features as well as it being water resistant. I think that I've decided to get one for myself now too!

Great bag!! Large enough for 15 inch laptop, iPad, 2 iPhones, lunchbox, wallet, glasses, cords, headphones, and extra shoes. Perfect for work!

I just returned from a 3 week trip to Europe -- Planes, autos, boats, trains -- and this pack was great! I had room for a couple of changes of clothes in case luggage didn't arrive, iPad, chargers, passports, magazines, and small miscl. Pack was comfortable to carry by the handles or on my back, stowed easily under the plane seat. I hope to use it for many years to come!

Fantastic quality. I love that it stands up when you sit down on the floor or on a table. I love that it does not fall over. I am super excited that it is waterproof. My mother-in-law is eyeing my bag. Maybe I’ll purchase her one for Mother’s Day.

I have been looking for a new bag to use for work for a while because my old one, the zippers were breaking. I was really drawn to this one because of the minimal design and the wide opening. I love it. As others have stated, I wish the fabric on the inside was lighter. It stands open when empty. My only wish is that the side zipper was for a seperate pocket for a passport and a wallet. I can't wait to take this on business trips, it is going to look professional and the wide opening is going to make it easy to take out my laptop and toiletry bag for security lines. The quantity is really good and I am really happy with it. You can get a nice quality bag without breaking the bank.

I am more than thrilled with my backpack! I was looking for one that had enough flat room on the bottom to hold my filled toiletry/medication roll & this does that! Love that it has “feet” & stands on its own! The fact that it is water-proof is a plus. And the chest clip can be shortened & used to hold the pack securely on the top of my wheelie! Having the top flip open makes loading, unloading & finding anything a huge plus. Best on-line purchase I have ever made…and it is right here in Oregon. THANK YOU!

This is the 2nd bag I’ve ordered. After receiving my first one my husband claimed it for himself. I ordered another for me. I love that they are waterproof and they stand up when placed on a desk or the floor. It is great not having your bag fall over spilling all the contents. Also I love the pocket held tight by the strong Velcro. Overall an outstanding product. I recommend it enthusiastically!

Love LOVE this bag. Switched from driving to taking train to work and needed a backpack vs work tote. Big top opening is a game changer. I can fit my lunch and all work/personal items without it being stuffed. It's a quality product and comfortable to wear. Love the bigger side pockets to fit larger sized bottles.

I'm the type of person that has never been able to find a backpack that I love & keeps buying a new one to see if it checks all of my boxes. Through college and multiple moves, travels, and careers, I could never find a backpack that fits all of my needs. However, from the moment I packed all of my things into this bag, I knew it was the one! The durability, size, wide opening top, water bottle pockets, and laptop sleeve, it is all perfect! I could not be happier with this product!!

It's exactly what I was hoping for and more. As a professional guitarist who travels I need to keep things as simple as possible.I get everything I need in here,looks good,it's tough and there is room for someone like me to customize the carry spaces for stuff I need for particular trips,gigs and guitar clinics...WELL DONE!!!! .

Love the backpack, but it's a little large for my purposes. Would love to have a slightly scaled down backpack with the same design, just smaller dimensions.

I love it !! Bought it for an upcoming vacation. In the meantime, I used it for dragging my laptop, files, etc back and forth to work. The wide top opening is great, no longer digging to find something. Great design job !!!!

The pack is great but I wish the water bottle holders had a Velcro or tie to keep my thinner water bottle is place. Anything smaller than the opening falls out. Do you have a solution?

This bag looks great and is really functional! I love how it stands up by itself and the general structure of the bag. As a plus-size person, this is not the most comfortable backpack for me. It's fine for everyday use to work and back but I would probably choose a different pack for traveling or longer usage. For more larger body comfort, I'd want the straps to start a little farther apart at the shoulders and for there to be a bit more padding on the back and straps.

I so love love the backpack. It’s a gift for my son. But my son says he have a lot of black backpacks. So i guess it’s mine now! Lol! It is so roomy and sturdy. Can stand on its own. I just wish they have a variety of color and i want a little bit smaller coz’ i am petite. Overall the bag is amazing!

Absolutely love this backpack. It is simple, but looks really nice. It don't have a lot of pockets, but it's okay because the bag is big. It is very roomy, and I appreciate how wide the opening is. I put everything in it and since the opening is wide, you can see everything inside . It is waterproof. I really like this bag, comfy and pretty.

I bought the backpack for a trip abroad. I'm really excited about how well it's made.

I had watched the video of this backpack several times in my Facebook feed. It reminded me of a backpack I had seen in Europe and thought I'd give it a try. It reminds me of a big hobo bag because the entry from the top makes the compartment seem cavernous. When I first put it on, it took me a bit to realize that the clip that technically goes across the chest was hitting me across the neck (which was totally unacceptable). But my first test run of this bag to a comic/con type event led me to discover that I could lower that clip (although not low enough). I haven't take the backpack on a trip yet. But I will carry it a bit and determine if it will replace a backpack that is more school oriented.

I highly recommend this backpack! Good quality, secret pockets, and bigger than expected. The waterproof zipper clasps and fabric look really professional and clean. The waterbottle pockets and straps for the backpack could be improved. I find the straps are kind of narrow for the size of the pack and are constantly slipping so that the pack isn't fitting in the way I would like.

Happy with the size and live the way it opens on top so everything is in plain sight. Stands on its own!

This is probably the 3rd or 4th backpack I ordered to use for an upcoming trip. I've sent all of them back for various reasons but I am keeping the Portland Gear bag. It's just the right size without being too large and has just enough organizational options without being constraining. Can't wait to give it a whirl!

Great quality backpack which is well constructed and of great material. Looking forward to using it for travel in a week. My one wish is that it had a trolley strap but with how it stands and the use of the top strap, I was able to attach it to my luggage to make it work for me.

I love the size and look of my olive, cascade backpack. It is roomy and comfortable. I am taking it as my carry on for an upcoming trip to Sicily. I plan to use it for sight seeing, adventure trips once there. Will keep you posted!

Bought this just in time for the latest Northern California storm. I’m obsessed with it. I love, love, love how easy it is to find everything because of the way the backpack opens at the top. The straps are comfy. Everything I need fits in there easily without making the backpack itself huge. All of my stuff has stayed dry throughout the rainstorms. I’m really kinda obsessed with it. I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited about a backpack purchase.

Love this backpack! The side pockets are perfect for transporting a variety of things I need and the interior pockets keep the smaller items organized. The interior space is awesome for the variety of items I use on a daily basis, easy to access and spacious. The waterproof exterior is great when the weather is challenging, never a worry about my laptop. Recently bought the same backpack for my mom and she too loves it!

It's the side pockets for me; big enough for a water bottle, deep enough to hold your phone without falling out. Perfect for commuters, travelers, or every day. Seems very sturdy and well-made (we're only one week in).

1st day of work/new job … got me through the day!!

I bought this to use as my "personal item" along with a backpack for a 3 month tour of Europe, eastern Europe and the Balkans. It holds a lot and looks lovely. I was happy it arrived just in time yesterday for my trip starting Monday.

Love the “pop open” feature and handles which makes it more than a backpack !!!!

I love the design and the fact that it’s waterproof. Green is my favorite color but I found this shade not so lovely. Will probably exchange for black. The interior should be a lighter color; it’s a dark pit (reminds me of my soul, haha). Some nice red and white stripes might make finding ones headphones easier and could forestall an existential crisis.

Love that it’s waterproof/resistant, that it has a few pockets but isn’t cluttered, and that it’s large but doesn’t overwhelm my small frame. So many other backpacks hang too long. And I also love the top frame opening which makes it easy to pack and find things.

I can take it anywhere and not have to worry about what’s inside, not to mention it looks super cool!

Haven’t used it yet. I purchased it for a summer trip as a carryon bag. We’re limited in the size we can carry and this is perfect and do roomy.

I was looking for a backpack with more room, and a very large main compartment. This is it! Large side pockets, straps that are padded and don’t slip. Bonus that it’s water resistant!

I've had this backpack For about two weeks now, and I absolutely love it I take it to work And I use it for everyday use as well.

The volume is great and it holds all my stuff. A few more internal pockets would be great and a longer Velcro strip for smaller loads would help keep things tight!!

I can't say enough great things about this backpack. All you need to do is watch the videos of this product on IG and you'll understand why. That's what I did! I couldn't wait to purchase one. It's very large inside which is so convenient for market shopping and carrying items that will stay standing up, like milk! Love the zippered pouch in the front for small items. Large side pockets for flasks. A front clasp to keep it comfortably on your body. Waterproof! And another plus I like about it is the front strap that fits over the extending handle of your suitcase or carryon. (now my husband wants one too!) What are you waiting for?...better buy yours before they're gone! :)

Just used it for the first time, on a flight cross-country. It was perfect-able to put lots of my stuff in it, easy access, and love the comfort, as well as the look of it and how well the top zipper is "hidden" to stay dry in rain and safety.

Have not taken the backpack on a trip yet but it fits me well and has a huge visible storage area

4/5 stars because this is a great commuter backpack. When they made this they definitely had PDX in mind. Large and spacious, handles for carrying, weather resistant, feet on the bottom so the bag isn’t touching the ground. Some improvements I’d love to see that would elevate the bag further. Keep the same look/layout/size those in my opinion are perfect. But as an airline worker/frequent flyer I would love to see: •luggage pass through strap on the back •quick access front pocket (maybe where the logo is) with a magnetic closure for quick and easy TSA storage like shoving your phone in it •some internal storage pockets and maybe a couple pen holders. •Thicker shoulder straps Amazing bag nonetheless, however it isn’t a bag that I can replace my trustworthy travel pro backpack with. I did bring it on my last 2 day trip to Hawaii and it was good but the features above were all things I missed having during the travel period. Hopefully the team sees this! I’d love to see a 2.0 version

I was looking for a waterproof backpack that could work for hiking, as a camera bag in wet weather, and as an airline carry-on. I fell in love with this bag from the moment I opened the package. I love the color (olive green), the feel of it, and the fact that it can stand up on its own without falling over. Can't wait to test its waterproofness (is that a word?!)!

This is a great backpack! I travel a lot for work and was looking for the perfect travel backpack and this one has it all! (I tried two others from different companies that I ended up returning). Waterproof, BIG waterbottle side pockets, laptop sleeve, hidden compartment, as well as a strap to fit on your carryon. 10/10

Really like the space for the laptop, water bottles, and how the top closes!

I got the backpack to replace another since my work laptop is so big, and often hinders my ability to properly use some 'standard' styles. IG served me an ad for this one, and I was immediately interested in the wide Frame opening and the waterproof quality of it. Plus the otherwise simple design (I can't hide a bunch of things in a ton of pockets, I will never find them again). I read through reviews and did some research, and ultimately was really impressed with the price point and the design both. I received the product super quick, and I love it. To speak towards other reviews on the water bottle pocket: my 24oz Owala bottle fits just fine, which is what I travel with most. While I have not put it to use yet, I know it will be great. The ordering and everything has been great so far. Off-hand the only feedback I have is: 1) explain the front velcro pocket/handle's intended use on the site. I like it now that I can actually see it in person, but it was never mentioned or highlighted on the site or in socials that I saw. the handle itself confused me in photos. 2) confirm dimensions with under-seat airline use, as that is important to note if this can be used for personal item 3) add a luggage loop on the back possibly? I realize this is mostly being marketed as a commuter style backpack, but luggage loops are pretty essential these days + waterproof designs lean into travel really well.

Great backpack

I’ve had this backpack for around a month. I love the design on it and I use it everyday for school, work, and hiking. Portland Gear also has awesome customer service! My original Cascade Backpack strap unfortunately broke, I contacted Customer Service and got a new one shipped to me within a day! Awesome backpack, definitely recommend.

I have been searching for the "perfect" backpack for several months. I am a teacher and I haul many miscellaneous items back and forth to school. This backpack is incredible! I can get my papers, books, and laptop in safe and secure. I live in Minnesota, the waterproof aspect is wonderful. It is nice and light and feels good when I wear it. It will be great for travel and daytrips. I have had it for 10 days and am thrilled with it.
