- The unique footbed is engineered to feel “just right”. Not to firm…not too soft. Not too contoured…not too flat. Like walking barefoot on a grass field.
- A dual-density midsole creates a softer underfoot feel. You sink into it while maintaining stability around the sidewall where you need it.
- The upper is designed to provide a “safe” and comfortable place for your foot to relax. You are protected from the elements without compromising comfort.
- Hook and loop webbing strap for adjustment to your choice of fit.

Q: Give us a summary of your background in the design/shoe industry.
I'm an industrial designer from ArtCenter College of Design. I was first a design intern at Nike, and went on to have a 25-year career there that included working with athletes like Scottie Pippen, LeBron James, Serena Williams, and Carissa Moore (Hurley).
Q: How did you get involved with Portland Gear?
I have been a fan of Portland Gear since its inception and met the founder/owner, Marcus Harvey, a few years back. I was working on a footwear collection concept (the Haven is the first style), and Marcus had wanted to get into footwear. We hit it off right away.
Q: What is the inspiration behind Portland Gear’s Haven Mule?
Everyday "comfort design." Great design exists at the intersection of performance and style—the balanced and symbiotic relationship between the two. The intent behind the Haven's design is that it sits at that intersection, with "comfort" as the focus. Comfortable performance. Comfortable style. Feel comfortable. Feel confident.
Q: What sets PG’s shoe apart from its competition?
The Haven Mule brings more comfort underfoot while maintaining your natural stability. The natural shape of the footbed allows your foot to spread and relax as it’s meant to. The soft contour of the footbed provides just enough support for your modern lifestyle.
Q: What materials are the shoes made of?
We considered all our material selections with both performance and environmental impact in mind. This includes recycled content, durability, and everyday wear. We aim to design products that age gracefully and tell a story over time. Our shoes should remind you of the places you've been and the future you want to walk into.
