About the PDX Airport
Portland International Airport (PDX) is getting a new look, and we're thrilled to announce that Portland Gear has been selected to be one of the stores that will be a part of the new airport experience!
The PDXNext project is a $2 billion investment in the airport that will create healthy spaces optimized for sustainability, earthquake resilience, and wellbeing. The project is expected to be completed in 2025 and will include a park-like environment filled with live trees and massive skylights that will provide a Pacific Northwest feel to the airport. The new lattice wooden ceiling, which was sourced sustainably from local forests, will be a unique feature that visitors won't want to miss.
As part of the PDXNext project, more opportunities have been opened up for local businesses to be a part of the new airport. We're excited to be among the local businesses that have been selected to showcase our brand and the amazing Portland storylines and collaborations that will be a part of the airport experience.
Our store at PDX will be post-security and will feature elements of the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest in its design and layout. We plan to create a space that's inviting, simple, unique, and high-functioning, flowing seamlessly like a river and inviting patrons in. Visitors can expect to see a tribute to the iconic VW bus, a rotating P logo in the window, and a custom “penny press” as a tribute to how Portland got its name.
We're excited to offer unique collections specific to the airport that will give visitors a chance to take home a special memento from their time in Portland. We plan to utilize the welcoming windows at the front of the store to create engaging showcase installations that bring people in and make them want to explore more. And at the back of the store, visitors will find a life-size "half" of the VW bus turned into a retail, interactive display unit that they can open and close, take pictures with, and learn about the history of our brand.
To pay tribute to our Willamette river, we’re going to make the ceiling look like a flowing river by utilizing acoustic panels. It will invite and welcome visitors in as if they’re floating down the river and provide a cool and unique social media moment to capture.
Overall, we're thrilled to be a part of the new airport experience and to represent the Rose City in our own unique way. We can't wait to share our brand and our stories with visitors from all over the world. We hope to see you soon at our new store at PDX!
