Article: A Note from our Summer Intern
A Note from our Summer Intern
Every summer, we host a summer intern from the University of Oregon (Go Ducks) via the PIE program. Here is a note from her experience with us:
Hi, my name is Ella! This summer, I had the opportunity to intern with Portland Gear as a Community Engagement and Event Intern before starting my senior year at the University of Oregon, where I major in Environmental Science with a minor in Sustainable Business. My role centered around planning and running twelve pop-ups across the city, where I helped bring the brand directly to the community. From setting up products to connecting with customers, these events gave me the chance to grow my leadership and communication skills while also learning what makes a successful retail experience. In addition to the events, I had fun working alongside the Portland Gear team, contributing to behind-the-scenes projects, and building lasting friendships.
Another part of my internship was creating my personal project, Rebagged, Portland Gear’s new limited-edition sustainability line. The vision behind Rebagged is to take unfixable customer trade-ins and transform them into one-of-a-kind, collectible bags. This project combines creativity, circular design, and sustainability, all values I connect with as both a student and a future professional. By giving even the most damaged bags a second life, Rebagged not only reduces waste but also offers customers a chance to engage with sustainability in a tangible way. Presenting this idea to Portland Gear was an inspiring reminder of how innovation and environmental responsibility can work hand in hand.
